Hiscox opened its first United States office in Armonk, New York in March 2006.In addition to the Armonk office we have satellite offices in Manhattan, San Francisco and Chicago to further develop our broker relationships and distribution network for businesses in the USA. Hiscox USA is focused on rolling out Hiscox's specialist products for small and mid-size US businesses which can be purchased via local and regional brokers.

USA business already accounts for 40% of Hiscox’s overall business today, written via Syndicate 33 at Lloyd’s of London, where we have been underwriting a wide range of personal and business risks for over 100 years. Our new USA offices reflect our commitment to developing our service to brokers and customers in this important market and building on the strong business relationships we already have.

We believe that by specializing we can deliver real value to our clients in our chosen areas. We concentrate on insurance where brains make a difference to each transaction. A fundamental criterion in all our underwriting is that who we insure is more important than what we insure. By dealing only with honest and careful clients, we will have fewer claims and be able to quote wider cover with lower premiums, backed by rapid and fair payment of claims and excellent service.

Our focus gives us two significant and distinctive advantages. First, we can often insure risks other companies find too complex or unusual to cover. Second, we can customize policies very closely to suit the individual client's requirements.

Our approach has seen us grow from a single underwriter at Lloyd’s of London into one of the leading underwriting specialists with offices in 12 countries and customers around the world.

The Hiscox Group
There are three main underwriting parts of the Group. Hiscox Global Markets, Hiscox UK and Europe, and Hiscox International.

• Hiscox London Market underwrites mainly internationally traded business in the London market – generally large or complex business which needs to be shared with other insurers or needs the international licenses of Lloyd’s.
• Hiscox UK and Hiscox Europe offer a range of specialist insurance for professionals and business customers, as well as high net worth individuals.
• Hiscox International includes offshore operations in Bermuda, Guernsey and Hiscox USA.
